Pathophysiologic and prognostic role of proinflammatory and regulatory cytokines as a proinflammatory and regulatory cytokine in dengue fever*

Saishruti Iyer et al.

Summary: This study investigated T-cell activation in Dengue infected patients using three markers and correlated cytokine levels with disease severity and clinical outcomes. The results showed that IL-10 is a highly sensitive marker of Severe Dengue and can be used as a screening tool in Secondary Dengue patients or those with warning signs. TNF-α can be used for prognosis in patients presenting with symptoms, while interferon gamma can be a measure to screen patients presenting with fever with thrombocytopenia.

Increased Indoleamine 2,3-Dioxygenase 1 (IDO-1) Activity and Inflammatory Responses during Chikungunya Virus Infection

Thiara Manuele Alves de Souza et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the activity of IDO-1 and the patterns of cytokines/chemokines in CHIKV patients. It was found that IDO-1 activity increased during the early acute phase of infection and decreased in the chronic phase. In the acute phase, concentrations of TNF-alpha, IL-6, IFN-gamma, CCL2/MCP-1, and CXCL10/IP-10 were increased. In the chronic phase, concentrations of CCL4/MIP-1 beta were increased, especially in patients with arthritis.

Dengue virus co-opts innate type 2 pathways to escape early control of viral replication

Chathuranga L. Fonseka et al.

Summary: Group 2 innate lymphoid cells are activated during acute dengue viral infection in humans and play a role in facilitating viral dissemination through downregulation of type I-IFN responsive gene and protein expression via prostaglandin D2. They also enhance monocyte infection and can be targeted for therapeutic intervention.

Innate and adaptive immune evasion by dengue virus

Michelle Felicia Lee et al.

Summary: Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease that poses significant public health concerns in tropical and subtropical countries. The dengue virus has evolved various strategies to manipulate the host's immune responses, and miRNAs and DENV non-structural proteins (NS) are promising targets for anti-dengue therapeutics.

Immune-regulated IDO1-dependent tryptophan metabolism is source of one-carbon units for pancreatic cancer and stellate cells

Alice Clare Newman et al.

Summary: Cancer cells adapt their metabolism to meet the increased demands for synthesis. Recent research has focused on nutrients that supply one-carbon units to the folate cycle, particularly serine. Tryptophan can serve as a theoretical source of one-carbon units through metabolism by IDO1, and cancer cells release tryptophan-derived formate that can be utilized by other cells.

Summary: Immunometabolism plays a key role in HIV-1 pathogenesis, with the metabolic states of T cells and macrophages determining their susceptibility to infection, metabolism of immune cells shaping their response to infection, and metabolic products driving inflammation during infection.
