Value chain analysis of Garlic in LiboKemkem District: In the era of COVID-19, South Gondar Zone Amhara Region, Ethiopia

Gedefaw Kindu Wubet

Summary: This study assessed the Garlic value chain in Libokemkem District, Ethiopia, and identified three groups of actors. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand and price of Garlic increased. Factors such as production quantity, land allocation, price, market information, experience, and number of oxen significantly influenced Garlic market supply. The lack of improved seeds, high input costs, diseases, pests, and a price setting policy framework were identified as constraints in the Garlic value chain.

A fast and effective approach for the discrimination of garlic origin using wooden-tip electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and multivariate classification

Hebert Pereira et al.

Summary: This study utilized wooden-tip electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (WTESI-MS) and multivariate pattern recognition methods for the discrimination of garlic origin through chemical fingerprints without the need for sample preparation, achieving good results. It was found that the best performance was achieved in the positive ion mode, with most ions in the mass spectra belonging to amino acids, sugars, organosulfur compounds, and lipids.
