Interfacial reaction and phase formation in Pd/ZrO/Pd/TiO/Pd multilayer stack on silicon substrate: Investigated by ion beam techniques

Z. M. Khumalo et al.

Summary: The influence of annealing temperature on the stability of Pd/Zr/Pd/Ti/Pd thin films with oxygen-containing Zr and Ti layers deposited on a silicon substrate was investigated. Rutherford backscattering spectrometry analysis revealed that Pd diffusion occurred from the third and fifth layers into the fourth layer (Ti and O) starting at approximately 370 degrees C. Additionally, Ti diffusion from the Ti-O layer into low and high channels was observed. Above 480 degrees C, a second reaction between Pd and the silicon substrate resulted in the formation of a hexagonal silicide phase (Pd2Si). The thickness of the Pd2Si layer increased with temperature, and its activation energy was estimated to be 2.30 eV.

Non-linear kinetic analysis of catalytic hydrolysis of ethylenediamine bisborane with nano- structured Pd/TiO2 catalyst

Okay Serkan Angi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the hydrogen generation from catalytic hydrolysis of ethylenediamine bisborane solution catalyzed by nanostructured titanium dioxide supported Pd metallic catalyst. The results show that the loading of Pd and temperature have significant effects on the catalytic hydrogen production. Non-linear kinetic analysis is applied to determine the activation energy of the catalyst.

Characteristics of Mg doped TiO2 thin film based deep UV photodetector

Avijit Dalal et al.

Summary: Co-doping of Mg into chemically stable TiO2 thin film enhances the light sensitivity for deep UV detection. The Mg-doped TiO2 thin film exhibits superior hydrophobicity, while the undoped TiO2 thin film shows high responsivity in the visible region. The Mg:TiO2 photodetector demonstrates significantly higher light sensitivity compared to undoped TiO2 thin film at 200 nm illumination.

Tailoring superhydrophilicity and photocatalysis of sputter deposited TiO2/ WO3 thin films on super white glass by process and chemical composition optimization

Sheng-Kuei Chiu et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the deposition of TiO2/WO3 nanocomposite thin films onto super white glass and explores the optimization of photocatalytic performance through processing controls and adjustments of the film's chemical composition. The results demonstrate the fabrication of an anatase-dominated, mesoporous coating that exhibits the highest level of superhydrophilicity and photocatalysis, making it suitable for self-cleaning cover glass applications. The mechanism behind the superior photoactivity of this film is clarified through atomic-scaled analyses.

Referencing to adventitious carbon in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy: Can differential charging explain C 1s peak shifts?

G. Greczynski et al.

Summary: The peak position of C 1s can be affected by the vacuum level alignment and differential charging. However, recent studies suggest that differential charging may not be the general cause of C 1s peak shifts. Experimental results confirm that the binding energy of C 1s peaks in metal foils is determined by their work function values.

Surface chemistry of TiO2-ZnO thin films doped with Ag. Its role on the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue

M. Perez-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic Ag-loaded (TiO2)(0.95)-(ZnO)(0.05) thin films were successfully synthesized using the sol-gel dip-coating method, with the incorporation and surface diffusion of Ag confirmed by secondary ion mass spectrometry measurements. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed the chemical composition and electronic structure of the samples, confirming the presence of TiO2 and ZnO. The best response in photocatalytic activity was observed in the (TiO2)(0.95)-(ZnO)(0.05) thin films doped with 2 mol% Ag.

Work Function of TiO2 (Anatase, Rutile, and Brookite) Single Crystals: Effects of the Environment

Vera Mansfeldova et al.

Summary: Research shows that the position of the Fermi level and the conduction band minimum on various TiO2 single-crystal surfaces significantly depend on the sample environment. The conduction band minimum changes in the series: anatase < rutile < brookite. Photoelectron spectra in water vapor reveal a noticeable upshift of the conduction band.

UV-A light-assisted gas-phase formic acid decomposition on photo-thermo Ru/TiO2 catalyst

Javier Ivanez et al.

Summary: Dual mode excitation of catalysts using both photonic and thermal activation has gained increasing interest in recent years due to its potential benefits in enhancing catalytic reactions. The combination of photon and thermal excitation can increase reaction efficiency and selectivity, especially at high irradiance levels. This new approach allows reactions to be driven at lower temperatures and improves the selectivity for hydrogen production.
