Development of multi-objective optimization model for water distribution network using a new reliability index

S. M. Jafari et al.

Summary: The high cost and importance of hydraulic performance in water distribution networks present challenges to their management. This research aims to provide optimal instructions for pipe repair and replacement that minimize cost and maximize hydraulic performance. The proposed approach integrates hydraulic simulation, pipe failure rate prediction, multi-objective optimization, and decision-making models. Implementing the optimal instruction improves pipe quality and increases pressure and network reliability.

Summary: This research explores the application of optimized neural network models for assessing the condition of water pipelines in Shaker Al-Bahery, Egypt. Results indicate that the neural network trained with the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm outperforms other machine learning models. Additionally, swarm intelligence algorithms are utilized to determine optimal intervention strategies for pipeline maintenance.

Performance indicators in multiobjective optimization

Charles Audet et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been significant growth in the development of new algorithms for multiobjective optimization, with a large number of performance indicators introduced to measure the quality of Pareto front approximations. A total of 63 performance indicators are reviewed in this work, categorized into four groups based on their properties: cardinality, convergence, distribution, and spread. Applications of these indicators are also presented.

A risk component-based model to determine pipes renewal strategies in water distribution networks

Sattar Salehi et al.

Summary: This study developed a model for determining pipe renewal strategy (PRS) based on risk components (RCs) of each pipe in water distribution networks. The results of analyzing two known WDNs showed that the PRS determined by the model is reliable, indicating the effectiveness of the RC-WDSR model in determining PRS in WDNs.
