MEASURING THE ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF SMALL-SCALE RABBIT PRODUCTION AGRIBUSINESS ENTERPRISES

Summary: Reducing malnutrition and poverty is a priority in policy-making, and rabbit rearing is seen as a critical pathway to achieve this goal. A study was conducted to examine the economic performance and key factors influencing profitability in rabbit production. The results showed that rabbit production was productive and profitable, with factors such as stock size, education, experience, association membership, and labor availability enhancing profitability, while mortality, disease outbreaks, and feeding costs were inhibiting factors. Disease, high mortality rates, and limited access to credit were identified as major constraints to rabbit production, highlighting the need for disease management training and credit provisions to promote rabbit farming as a means to reduce poverty and increase protein availability.
