Investigation of the performance of cermet tools in the turning of Haynes 25 superalloy under gaseous N2 and hybrid nanofluid cutting environments

Senol Sirin

Summary: Co-based superalloys are difficult-to-machine materials, but machining under ecological cutting environments such as nanofluids has shown promising results. This study investigated the effects of different ecological cutting environments on the performance of cermet cutting tools, and found that the GnP/MWCNT+N2 hybrid cutting environment contributed significantly to the machining performance of Haynes 25 superalloy.

Experimental investigation on the effect of dry and multi-jet cryogenic cooling on the machinability and hole accuracy of CFRP composites

Chetan Agrawal et al.

Summary: In this study, the drilling performance of carbon fibre reinforced plastic composites under dry and cryogenic cooling conditions is analyzed. The results show that cryogenic drilling can improve thrust force, reduce torque, and enhance specific cutting energy and delamination factor compared to dry drilling. Additionally, cryogenic drilling can improve hole quality by reducing cylindricity and surface roughness.

A new lubrication approach in the SPIF process: Evaluation of the applicability and tribological performance of MQL

Nuri Sen et al.

Summary: The development of rapid prototyping processes has led to the emergence of Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) method, which reduces manufacturing costs for low to medium batch productions and allows for versatile manufacturing without the use of dies. However, SPIF process suffers from poor surface quality due to friction between the tool and sheet interfaces. The Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) technique has been applied in this study to investigate its effectiveness in improving surface quality in SPIF processes. Experimental results showed that increasing pressure and flow rate within certain limits improved surface quality and dimensional accuracy. MQL assisted SPIF process outperformed paste lubricated SPIF process, indicating the superiority of MQL technique.

Modeling and optimization of cutting forces and effect of turning parameters on SiCp/Al 45% vs SiCp/Al 50% metal matrix composites: a comparative study

Rashid Ali Laghari et al.

Summary: This study developed experimental and second-order models for cutting forces by considering multiple parameters, and optimized the cutting force models through response surface methodology. The results of experiment and model prediction show that increasing depth of cut and feed rate lead to higher cutting forces, while higher cutting speed has a positive effect on reducing cutting forces. Both SiCp/Al 45% and SiCp/Al 50% materials were thoroughly evaluated, with the developed RSM mathematical model showing good prediction competence and feasibility for optimizing machining processes.
