A hybrid data fusion methodology for household travel surveys to reduce proxy biases and under-representation of specific sub-group of population

Kaili Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a hybrid approach of combining household travel survey data with specialized travel survey data to reduce proxy biases and under-representation. By simulating travel diaries to correct proxy biases in post-secondary students living with families and directly inserting travel diaries of on-campus students, the methodology corrected the average trip rates of the population sub-group while preserving key travel behavior.

On Iterative Proportional Updating: Limitations and Improvements for General Population Synthesis

Peijun Ye et al.

Summary: This article analyzes the iterative proportional updating (IPU) algorithm and proposes an extension to consider more social organization types in population synthesis. The improved bilevel optimization method solves the problem of finding an optimal population distribution that satisfies constraints from individual and household levels. Numerical simulations and actual census data support the theoretical conclusions and demonstrate that the proposed bilevel optimization can synthesize more social organization types and achieve more accurate results.

Getting the best of both worlds: a framework for combining disaggregate travel survey data and aggregate mobile phone data for trip generation modelling

Andrew Bwambale et al.

Summary: This paper presents a joint modelling framework that combines the advantages of travel survey data and CDR data to optimize the predictive capacity of traditional trip generation models. The study demonstrates that integrating mobile phone data with travel survey data can improve the spatial and temporal transferability of the models, offering significant promise for the travel behaviour modelling community.

Inferring the Purposes of using Ride-Hailing Services through Data Fusion of Trip Trajectories, Secondary Travel Surveys, and Land Use Data

Sanjana Hossain et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a data fusion methodology for inferring trip purposes from GPS trajectories of ride-hailing services, which predicts purpose distributions with a discrete choice model. The study reveals that ride-hailing services play important roles in daily commuter travel and are widely used for discretionary activities.
