Tensile Properties and Corrosion Behavior of a Dilute Mg-0.5Sn-0.7Al-0.8Zn Alloy Applied for Biomaterials

Weili Cheng et al.

Summary: The novel dilute Mg-0.5Sn-0.7Al-0.8Zn alloy, directly extruded after casting, exhibited a fine bimodal grained microstructure, local nano-precipitates micro-region, and typical extrusion direction (ED)-tilted texture. It achieved a great balance between tensile properties and corrosion resistance, suggesting its potential for development as a biomaterial.

Effect of lithium content on the mechanical and corrosion behaviors of HCP binary Mg-Li alloys

Chuanqiang Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the microstructure, crystallographic texture, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of as-extruded HCP Mg-xLi (x = 1, 3, 5; in wt%) alloys were investigated. The results showed that the Mg-5Li alloy with high lithium content exhibited a low degree of dynamic recrystallization and strong prismatic texture, leading to higher mechanical strength along the extrusion direction. Additionally, the high lithium content improved the corrosion resistance of the alloy and mitigated groove-like corrosion.

The effects of Na2HPO4 on corrosion behaviour of Mg-5%Zn and Mg-7%Zn alloys in ovalbumin

Yudi Nugraha Thaha et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of Mg5Zn and Mg7Zn alloys in ovalbumin solution is accelerated by the addition of Na2HPO4, leading to a more severe corrosion attack. The presence of Na2HPO4 decreases the charge transfer resistance and film resistance on the alloy surface, promoting passivation and increasing corrosion rate.

Xue-jian Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of microstructural characteristics on the corrosion behavior of Mg-5Sn-3In alloys in Hank's solution after extrusion, showing that the extruded alloy exhibited a more uniform corrosion morphology and reduced local corrosion susceptibility. Cytotoxicity tests indicated a low cytotoxicity level for the alloy in vitro assays.

Effect of Cu addition on the microstructure, mechanical properties and degradation rate of Mg-2Gd alloy

Shiyu Zhong et al.

Summary: By adding copper (Cu) to Mg-2Gd alloy, more Mg2Cu second phases were precipitated, resulting in refined grain size and changing texture. This led to enhanced hardness, tensile strength, compressive strength, and degradation rate, while reducing strain hardening rate and elongation. However, the elongation still remained at least 20%. Overall, the comprehensive mechanical properties and degradation rate of Mg-2Gd alloy were effectively coordinated by Cu addition.

Correlations among stress corrosion cracking, grain-boundary microchemistry, and Zn content in high Zn-containing Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys

Ding-ling Yuan et al.

Summary: The study found that the tensile strength enhancement of high Zn-containing Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys was mainly due to the high density nano-scale matrix precipitates. The SCC plateau velocity was significantly higher in the alloy with 11.0 wt.% Zn compared to the alloy with 7.9 wt.% Zn, which was attributed to Zn enrichment in grain boundary precipitates and wide precipitates-free zones.
