Smart electrochemical immunosensing of aflatoxin B1 based on a palladium nanoparticle-boron nitride-coated carbon felt electrode for the wine industry

Summary: This study presents a method for fabricating an electrochemical immunosensor for aflatoxin detection. The sensor showed good analytical performance with a large linear range, low detection limit, and long-term stability. It was successfully applied to detect aflatoxin in wine samples.

Computational Studies of Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1): A Review

Summary: Aflatoxin B-1 (AFB(1)) is a highly mutagenic and carcinogenic substance. Computational chemistry has been used to investigate its chemical properties and behavior. This review summarizes the progress of computational studies on AFB(1) from 1974 to 2022, including molecular properties, theoretical investigations, interactions with inorganic, environmental, and biological compounds. The findings provide insights into the toxicity of different AFB(1) derivatives, structure-activity relationships with DNA or proteins, and strategies for quantification, detection, and elimination of AFB(1) molecules.

An update on immunotoxicity and mechanisms of action of six environmental mycotoxins

Summary: Six mycotoxins have both immunosuppressive and immunostimulatory effects, with effects depending on various factors. Low doses induce inflammation, while elevated levels lead to immunosuppression; long-term exposure has an immunosuppressive effect. These mycotoxins have anti-inflammatory roles in the presence of immune stimulants, but pro-inflammatory roles in their absence. Pigs are most sensitive to mycotoxins, while ruminants are the least susceptible.

Aflatoxins in maize dough and dietary exposure in rural populations of Togo

Summary: Aflatoxins produced by fungi pose food safety challenges in subSaharan African countries, particularly in maize-based products like maize dough. The study in Togo found high levels of aflatoxins in maize dough, with children being the most exposed group. The excess risk of liver cancer associated with aflatoxin consumption in the southern rural population of Togo was discussed.

Reducing the Allergenicity of Shrimp Tropomyosin and Allergy Desensitization Based on Glycation Modification

Summary: This study found that glycation modification of TM with saccharides of different molecular sizes can lead to the generation of hypoallergenic GTM, with TM glycated by maltose exhibiting lower allergenicity changes upon activating allergic reactions of mast cells and mouse models. Hypoallergenic GTM + Al(OH)(3) was also shown to be an effective candidate immunotherapy for desensitizing allergic reactions in patients allergic to shrimp food, providing preclinical data to support its use.
