Anti-fouling polymeric membrane ion-selective electrodes

Longbin Qi et al.

Summary: Reliable potentiometric ion sensing in complex samples remains a great challenge for polymeric membrane ion-selective electrodes (ISEs). Electrode fouling caused by the adsorptions of organic molecules and biological cells seriously affects the performance of ISEs. Development of polymeric membranes with fouling resistance is a fundamental strategy to address this issue and has become an important research direction.

Performance assessment of capsaicin derivatives containing amide groups used as active substances for antifouling coatings

Xuan Wang et al.

Summary: This study synthesized eight capsaicin (CAP) derivatives, some of which were considered new compounds. The antifouling (AF) properties of these compounds were characterized for the first time, showing excellent anti-algal activity and inhibition rates against bacteria. The study suggests that the CAP derivatives have potential applications in marine pollution treatment.

Polymeric membrane ion-selective electrodes with anti-biofouling properties by surface modification of silver nanoparticles

Longbin Qi et al.

Summary: In this study, a method based on surface modification of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to endow ISE membranes with anti-biofouling properties was described. The Ag NPs modified K+-ISE exhibited significantly improved anti-biofouling properties while retaining its original potentiometric ion response properties. This approach shows potential for enhancing the antifouling abilities of other polymeric membrane-based electrochemical sensors in complex environmental samples.

Improving the stability of Pb2+ ion-selective electrodes by using 3D polyaniline nanowire arrays as the inner solid-contact transducer

Xianghua Zeng et al.

Summary: Polyaniline nanowire arrays (PANI-NWA) were successfully synthesized and applied as the ion-to-electron transducer for the detection of aqueous Pb2+ ions. They exhibited high capacitance and low impedance, facilitating efficient ion-to-electron transfer. The three-dimensional PANI-NWA also improved detection efficiency by allowing easy penetration of Pb2+ ions and enhancing the stability of the ion selective electrodes.

Calibration-free potentiometric sensing with solid-contact ion-selective electrodes

Celeste R. Rousseau et al.

Summary: Research in recent years has focused on the development of solid-contact ISEs for calibration-free measurements in long-term, in situ analysis. This review discusses the definition of calibration-free usage and relevant literature, with a focus on different mechanisms of ion-to-electron signal transduction and different types of transduction modes.
