High-Throughput Colorimetric Analysis of Nanoparticle-Protein Interactions Based on the Enzyme-Mimic Properties of Nanoparticles

Mengyao Wen et al.

Summary: A colorimetric approach was proposed to quantitatively analyze the interactions between proteins and nanoparticles, by measuring the adsorption of proteins onto the nanoparticle surface using their peroxidase-mimic properties. This simple and high-throughput method successfully evaluated the binding parameters of different serum proteins and human serum with nanoparticles of different sizes. The results demonstrated that the characteristics of proteins and nanoparticle sizes strongly affected the binding affinity and the inhibition efficiency of the nanozyme activity.

Colorimetric and Photocurrent-Polarity-Switching Photoelectrochemical Dual-Mode Sensing Platform for Highly Selective Detection of Mercury Ions Based on the Split G-Quadruplex-Hemin Complex

Yamin Fu et al.

Summary: A dual-mode sensing platform assisted by magnetic NiCo2O4@SiO2-NH2 spheres was developed for colorimetric and photoelectrochemical (PEC) detection of Hg2+. The platform utilizes the split G-quadruplex-hemin complex's catalytic activity towards 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and its photocurrent polarity-switching ability on SnS2 photoanode. This platform provides mutual authentication of detection results in different modes, improving accuracy and confidence in Hg2+ detection.

Mimicking Peroxidase-Like Activity of Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Dots (N-CDs) Coupled with a Laminated Three-Dimensional Microfluidic Paper-Based Analytical Device (Laminated 3D-μPAD) for Smart Sensing of Total Cholesterol from Whole Blood

Nattasa Kitchawengkul et al.

Summary: This work introduces a simple method for synthesizing nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CDs), fabricating a microfluidic paper-based analytical device (muPAD), and using them for colorimetric determination of total cholesterol (TC) in human blood. The N-CDs demonstrated high affinity towards ABTS and strong adsorption of H2O2 at the graphitic N positions. The muPAD could classify TC levels visually within 10 minutes, making it a low-cost, rapid, simple, sensitive, and selective alternative for TC detection.

Nanozymes Inspired by Natural Enzymes

Ruofei Zhang et al.

Summary: Nanozymes, nanomaterials with enzyme-like activities, have attracted significant attention in recent years as potential substitutes and competitors for natural enzymes. The key focus in this field is on creating nanozymes with catalytic performance comparable to or surpassing that of natural enzymes. By employing a bioinspired strategy, researchers have successfully synthesized high-activity nanozymes that show similar catalytic activities to natural enzymes, establishing a new hot topic in nanozyme research.
