Antibacterial mechanism of sucrose laurate against Bacillus cereus by attacking multiple targets and its application in milk beverage

Yawei Ning et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antibacterial action of sucrose laurate (SL) against Bacillus cereus. The results showed that SL exhibited strong antibacterial activity and affected the cell wall, cell membrane, and intracellular material leakage. Proteomic analysis revealed that SL interfered with cell wall-associated hydrolases, fatty acid synthesis, nucleic acid synthesis, amino acid metabolism, and the HMP pathway and TCA cycle. This research provides scientific basis for the practical application of SL as a dual-functional food additive.

On the latent limit of detection of thermogravimetric analysis

C. Tsioptsias

Summary: This study theoretically analyzes the detection and quantitation limit of actual mass loss in thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and proves the existence of hidden error and the lowest detection limit (LLoDultimate) imposed by sample's buoyancy. The actual detection limit is influenced by temperature and LLoDultimate. Additionally, specific consequences and applications of LLoDultimate for studying thermochemical transition are discussed.

Microbial biosensor for Salmonella using anti-bacterial antibodies isolated from human serum

Jun-Hee Park et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel microbial biosensor for Salmonella detection based on impedance spectrometry using antibodies isolated from human serum. The isolated anti-Salmonella antibodies showed high binding affinity for S. enteritidis compared to other Gram-negative bacterial strains. The detection limit of the isolated antibodies was estimated to be 1.0 x 10(3) cells/mL for S. enteritidis and 1.0 x 10(6) cells/mL for BL21 (DE3).

Rapid Analysis of Bacterial Contamination in Platelets without Pre-Enrichment Using Pig Serum-Derived Antibodies

Ji-Hong Bong et al.

Summary: This study presents a rapid analysis method for detecting bacterial contamination in platelet samples using antibodies derived from pig serum, without the need for pre-enrichment. The feasibility of using these antibodies against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria was successfully demonstrated, and an impedance immunosensor for detecting contamination of platelets was developed.

Integrated microfluidic platform with electrohydrodynamic focusing and a carbon-nanotube-based field-effect transistor immunosensor for continuous, selective, and label-free quantification of bacteria

Chang-Ho Han et al.

Summary: An immunosensor utilizing electrohydrodynamic focusing and DEP concentration was developed for continuous and label-free detection of flowing Staphylococcus aureus. The sensor demonstrated good linearity in detecting S. aureus concentrations, with a capture time of 35 min and a limit of detection of 150 CFU mL(-1). The use of electrical manipulation and biological interaction also provided high specificity in measurements.
