This review discusses the distinct changes in properties of metal complexes that occur with the incorporation of fluorinated substituents in cyclopentadienyl anions, such as electrochemical properties or metal-ligand bonding energies. The synthetic challenges of preparing and coordinating fluorinated cyclopentadienyl anions are summarized in this article.
The incorporation of fluorinated substituents in cyclopentadienyl anions leads to distinct changes in the properties of the corresponding metal complexes, e.g., with regards to electrochemical properties or metal-ligand bonding energies.
