In recent decades, breast cancer treatment has made significant progress, with more emphasis on personalized treatment recommendations based on tumor biology. As a result, patients with favorable tumor characteristics can receive less routine care, as supported by multiple clinical trials in surgery, medicine, and radiation oncology. Personalizing cancer therapies based on a patient's tumor biology offers a crucial opportunity to ensure high-value services throughout the breast cancer care continuum.
In conclusion, breast cancer treatment has evolved significantly in the last few de-cades with an increasing emphasis on tailoring treatment recommendations based on tumor biology. With this has come a natural de-escalation of care for patients with favorable tumor characteristics, with multiple clinical trials in surgical, medical, and radiation oncology supporting the safety of omitting previously routine care in selected patients. The ability to personalize cancer therapies based on a patient's tu-mor biology offers a key opportunity to ensure that patients receive high-value ser-vices across the breast cancer care continuum.
