Suspension and Solution Precursor Plasma and HVOF Spray: A Review

Garima Mittal et al.

Summary: Thermal spray is a cost- and time-efficient process used in industrial and engineering sectors for mass production of desired coating structures. Liquid feedstocks in the form of suspensions or precursor solutions have the potential to overcome limitations of conventional powder feedstocks and offer better control over coating microstructure and material composition. However, there are complexities associated with liquid feedstocks that require understanding of the effects of different parameters on coating quality and performance.

High velocity suspension flame spraying of AlN/Al2O3 composite coatings

M. Blum et al.

Summary: Investigation was conducted on the direct spraying of AlN using a supersonic suspension flame spray (HVSFS) process to enhance the thermal conductivity, and the performance of the sprayed coatings, including morphology and phase composition, was analyzed. The results showed that the coatings with axially injected pure AlN suspension had the highest AlN content, and the thermal conductivity values were positively correlated with the AlN content in the coatings.

Mechanical Properties of 3D-Printed PEEK/HA Composite Filaments

Jianfeng Kang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the three-dimensional printing of polyether ether ketone (PEEK) composite filaments containing varying proportions of hydroxyapatite (HA). Experimental and finite element analysis results showed that the addition of HA increased the elastic modulus of the composite, while decreasing the tensile strength and fracture elongation. The dispersion of particles had a significant impact on the anisotropic coefficient of the modulus.

Brittle polymers in Fused Deposition Modeling: An improved feeding approach to enable the printing of highly drug loaded filament

Nadine Gottschalk et al.

Summary: This study explores a method of printing brittle filaments using a different feeding mechanism, avoiding the use of additional excipients. By investigating the influence of drug load with Ketoconazole on mechanical properties, and analyzing the crystallinity and compatibility of components in filaments, uniform tablets were successfully manufactured.

Summary: The properties and thermal stability of PLA were improved by adding a reactive agent and varying weight percentage of PA. The GAE equation was used to evaluate the thermal degradation parameters of PLA, confirming that random scission mechanism is the most probable for PLA degradation.

Wear Behavior Analysis of Al2O3 Coatings Manufactured by APS and HVOF Spraying Processes Using Powder and Suspension Feedstocks

Monika Michalak et al.

Summary: Thermally sprayed ceramic coatings are used to protect surfaces exposed to wear, high temperatures, and corrosion, with coatings using suspension feedstocks demonstrating better wear resistance. S-HVOF and axial suspension plasma spraying (A-SPS) allow for the deposition of the most dense, homogeneous coatings.
