Improvement mechanism of the oxidation resistance of Al-doped Ti(C, N)-based cermets: Influence of enriched Al in the subsurface oxide layer

A. Q. Li et al.

Summary: The effects of Al doping on the oxidation kinetics and oxidation mechanism of Ti(C,N)-based cermets were systematically investigated. Al derived from decomposed AlN powders promoted the precipitation of (Ni,Co)3Al nanoparticles in the binder phase, and the presence of (Ni,Co)3Al nanoparticles improved oxidation resistance by forming a (Ni,Co)(Ti,Al)O3 layer.

Cavitation erosion resistant nickel-based cermet coatings for monel K-500

Navneet K. Singh et al.

Summary: WC-NiCr and WC-Hastelloy C coatings were deposited on Monel K-500 substrate using HVOF-spray to enhance the cavitation erosion resistance of the alloy. Both coatings reduced the erosion volume loss of the alloy, with WC-NiCr showing a superior performance due to its better combination of microhardness and fracture toughness. The cavitation erosion in the coatings was characterized by the formation of craters, cavities, and debonding of splats, while microplastic tearing and microcracks were observed as the primary erosion mechanism in Monel K-500.

Systematic and collaborative approach to problem solving using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Neal Fairley et al.

Summary: The methodology presented in this work is a result of interactions between junior and senior XPS users within the CasaXPS framework, particularly through workshops organized by IMN. The discussions from these workshops have been instrumental in developing the XPS data processing concept and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in surface analysis problem-solving. This methodology has evolved over subsequent workshops and now represents the philosophy used in CasaXPS spectral data processing paradigm.
