Influence of annealing temperature and isostatic pressure on microstructure and superconducting properties of isotopic Mg11B2 wires fabricated by internal Mg diffusion method

Daniel Gajda et al.

Summary: In this study, superconducting Mg11B2 wires were fabricated using the internal Mg diffusion technique with isotopic amorphous nano boron (11B) as the precursor material. The influence of annealing temperature and isostatic pressure on the diffusion of Mg into the 11B layer and the performance of the wires was investigated. It was found that higher annealing temperatures significantly increased the critical temperature and critical current density of the wires. However, the distribution of Mg in the 11B layer resulted in material heterogeneity. Further studies showed that the combination of annealing temperature and isostatic pressure can improve the performance of the wires.

Transport and structural properties of MgB2/Fe wires produced by redesigning internal Mg diffusion process

Hakan Yetis et al.

Summary: We report the transport, electromechanical, and structural properties of single core MgB2/Fe wire produced using a new fabrication method called designed internal Mg diffusion (IMD) process. This method involves the use of non-stoichiometric Mg + B pellets instead of a central Mg rod in the standard IMD method. The results show that the designed IMD method significantly increases the engineering critical current density (J(e)), and the central porous MgB2 structure acts as an internal stabilizer against quench damage at high applied currents.

Superconducting Joining Concept for Internal Magnesium Diffusion-Processed Magnesium Diboride Wires

Dipak Patel et al.

Summary: This study fabricated a superconducting joint using unreacted monofilament internal magnesium diffusion-processed magnesium diboride (MgB2) wires, which demonstrated nearly identical transport current as the bare wire in a strong magnetic field and exhibited very low joint resistance. This work represents the first successful realization of a superconducting joint capable of transferring current without notable degradation under strong magnetic fields, showcasing the great potential of MgB2 for practical applications.

Superconducting joints using multifilament MgB2 wires for MRI application

Dipak Patel et al.

Summary: The study introduced superconducting joints made with 36 filaments magnesium diboride wires, showing characteristics with a critical temperature of 34.4K and critical current of 38.5A at 10K. Unconventional behavior of the joint was observed at 20K due to field trapping in the MgB2 bulk.

Preparation of a small-size superconducting joint for C-doped 30-filament MgB2 wires

Dan Xi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a preparation method for a small-size MgB2 superconducting joint for C-doped 30-filament MgB2 wires. An unreacted in situ C-doped monofilament wire is used as the connecting structure, resulting in a joint with good stability and the ability to release heat quickly. The joint shows a superconducting transition with Tc-on = 33.49 K and negligible resistance below 30.56 K, with approximately 40% J(c) value of the parent 30-filament wire at 4.2 K.
