Swelling and softening behavior of iron ore-spent mushroom substrate composite pellets during carbothermal reduction

Damodar S. Reddy et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of different reducing agents in iron-ore composite pellets, including coal, spent mushroom substrate, torrefied mushroom substrate, and de-ashed torrefied mushroom substrate. The torrefied mushroom pellets exhibited significant swelling and softening behavior, while coal and de-ashed torrefied pellets did not swell. Additionally, the addition of alkali metal oxides and soda lime glass to de-ashed torrefied pellets resulted in increased swelling and decreased softening temperature.

Direct reduction of iron ore pellets by H2 and CO: In-situ investigation of the structural transformation and reduction progression caused by atmosphere and temperature

Christoph Scharm et al.

Summary: This study investigates the direct reduction of individual iron ore pellets under different atmospheres and temperatures, analyzing the progress of reduction, structural changes, and porosity. The results show that reduction progress is faster and swelling index is higher under hydrogen atmosphere, and higher temperatures lead to faster reduction progress and significant changes in pellet structure.

Review of hydrogen-rich ironmaking technology in blast furnace

Yanbiao Chen et al.

Summary: Global warming has prompted the steel industry to use hydrogen-rich fuel to reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption. The introduction of hydrogen-rich fuels and their effects on burden reduction and property evolution have been discussed, along with a summary of hot events related to hydrogen metallurgy. Increasing hydrogen content changes the thermodynamic and kinetic conditions of chemical reactions, affecting the reduction behavior of iron oxides and the efficiency of blast furnace operation.
