Influence mechanism of silicon content in Al-killed steel on compositions of inclusions during LF refining

Jianfei Xu et al.

Summary: The influence of silicon content in steel on compositions of inclusions during LF refining process was investigated. Silicon affected the [Ca] content through the reaction (SiO2) + 2[Ca]->[Si]+2(CaO), and using low-calcium ferrosilicon alloy resulted in solid Al2O3 inclusions with low contents of CaO and MgO.

Formation, Evolution and Removal of MgO•Al2O3 Spinel Inclusions in Steel

Zhiyin Deng et al.

Summary: This review presents an overview of the formation, evolution, and removal of MgO·Al2O3 spinel inclusions in steel, along with suggestions for controlling these inclusions. It discusses the reclassification of formation mechanisms, the effects of elements like Ca, Ti, Mn, and rare earth on inclusion evolution, and methods for calculating phase stability diagrams. The sources, formation kinetics, agglomeration, separation, dissolution behaviors of spinel inclusions, and their advantages are also addressed in this review.

Evolution of Inclusions in Si-Mn-Killed Steel During Ladle Furnace (LF) Refining Process

Zonghui Liu et al.

Summary: Alloys and refining slag provide limited Ca to liquid steel, making it difficult to transform MnO-SiO2-based inclusions into CaO-SiO2-based inclusions. The use of CaO-containing refractory is the main reason for generating CaO-MnO-SiO2-based inclusions in this study.

Evaluation of Thermodynamic Driving Force and Effective Viscosity of Secondary Steelmaking Slags on the Dissolution of Al2O3 -Based Inclusions from Liquid Steel

Pedro Cunha Alves et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of slag engineering on the dissolution of Al2O3-based inclusions in steel, highlighting the importance of slag composition on this phenomenon. Steel/Slag B and C showed improved results in enhancing the dissolution of Al2O3-based inclusions, with final inclusion density below 0.50 mm(-2).

Formation Mechanism of Large CaO-SiO2-Al2O3 Inclusions in Si-Deoxidized Spring Steel Refined by Low Basicity Slag

Min Jiang et al.

Summary: During the refining of Si deoxidized spring steel with low-basicity slag, the addition of BaCO3 resulted in the formation of BaO-containing CaO-SiO2-Al2O3 inclusions in steel. These inclusions were found to originate from entrapped slag, rather than chemical reactions among slag, steel, and inclusions.
