Effects of yttrium addition on microstructures and mechanical properties of CoCrNi medium entropy alloy

Xinwei Hong et al.

Summary: Element addition can improve the properties of alloys, and in this study, yttrium addition was found to significantly enhance the microhardness and strength of CoCrNi medium entropy alloys (MEAs) by increasing the volume fraction of YNi5 precipitates. The hardness and strength of the alloys scaled with the volume fraction of precipitates, with precipitation strengthening being the major contribution while solid solution and grain boundary strengthening had minor contributions.

Significant Improvement of Cleanliness and Macro/Microstructure of As-Cast AISI M42 High-Speed Steel by Mg Treatment

Wei-Chao Jiao et al.

Summary: The modification effects of surface-active element Mg on the inclusions and macro/microstructure of as-cast M42 high-speed steel were investigated. The results showed that Mg treatment changed the inclusion type and reduced their size and number density. Increasing Mg content refined the as-cast microstructure, improved homogeneity, and inhibited the formation of specific eutectic carbides.

Effect of Ce on microstructures, carbides and mechanical properties in simulated coarse-grained heat-affected zone of 800-MPa high-strength low-alloy steel

Ruming Geng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of Ce addition on the welding performance of 800-MPa HSLA steel by analyzing the microstructures, carbides, and mechanical properties in the simulated CGHAZ. The results showed that Ce addition improved the toughness and strength of the HSLA steel, and reduced the strength loss in the CGHAZ, essentially improving the welding performance of the steel.

Combinatorial development of multicomponent Invar alloys via rapid alloy prototyping

Ziyuan Rao et al.

Summary: In this study, five multicomponent Invar alloys were developed using rapid alloy prototyping. The relationships among valence electron concentration, magnetic properties, and Invar behavior were discussed. The alloy with Cu addition showed the most promising results, with a larger temperature range of low thermal expansion coefficient and slightly higher hardness.

Role of hot rolling procedure and solution treatment process on microstructure, strength and cryogenic toughness of high manganese austenitic steel

Z. G. Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that solution treatment is effective in improving the Charpy impact toughness of high manganese steels, but decreases strength. At low temperature, the stability of austenite is high. The impact fracture mode is ductile and the main deformation mechanism is mechanical twinning.

Experimental Study on Rare Earth and Magnesium Composite Treatment of 49MnVS3 Non-quenched and Tempered Steel

Yang Li et al.

Summary: A new method of combining rare-earth cerium and magnesium to treat steel with low oxygen and sulfur content has been proposed, resulting in improved inclusions and microstructure, leading to enhanced strength and impact toughness. The optimal mass fractions of Ce and Mg were determined to be 0.0122 wt% and 0.0012 wt%, respectively, for the 49MnVS3 steel.
