Effects of contact/collision sport history on gait in early- to mid-adulthood

Katherine J. Hunzinger et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of contact/collision sport participation on gait performance in early-to middle-aged adults. The results showed no significant differences in gait outcomes between groups, indicating that contact/collision sport duration did not negatively affect neurobehavioral function.

NZ-RugbyHealth Study: Self-reported Injury Experience and Current Health of Former Rugby Union and Non-contact Sport Players

Patria A. Hume et al.

Summary: This study examined the differences in self-reported sport injury history and current health characteristics between former rugby players and non-contact sport players. The results showed that former rugby players had a higher risk of injuries during their playing careers and a higher prevalence of osteoarthritis in retirement. Further research on the impact of rugby on player health is needed.

Age-Related Changes in Centre of Pressure Trajectories Analysed with a Novel 'Return to Central' Analysis

Steven van Andel

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of 'return to central' COP trajectories in bipedal quiet stance to evaluate age and fall-risk related changes in balance ability. The results showed that age was associated with differences in COP trajectories in the anterior-posterior direction, while no differences were found related to fall risk or in the mediolateral direction. The 'return to central' COP trajectories provide insights into the postural control system and could be useful for testing balance in challenging conditions.

Concussion History and Balance Performance in Adolescent Rugby Union Players

Summary: This study found that adolescent rugby players with a history of concussion exhibited poorer dynamic balance performance compared to healthy controls. Static single-leg balance tests may not be sensitive enough to detect sensorimotor deficits in those with a history of concussion.
