Comparative profiling of polyphenols and antioxidants and analysis of antiglycation activities in rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) under different moisture regimes

Maryam Salami et al.

Summary: Genotype, growth stages, and moisture regimes play important roles in affecting the polyphenols in rapeseed with their beneficial properties. This study found that drought treatment increased chlorophylls, carotenoids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and antioxidant activities in rapeseed, while flowering stage is the preferred timing to harvest rapeseed with higher polyphenol content. Antiglycation activities were associated with specific polyphenols, emphasizing the importance of growth stage and genotype in obtaining rapeseed with higher polyphenols and antioxidants.

Air Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet to Improve Fruiting Body Production and Enhance Bioactive Phytochemicals from Mutant Cordyceps militaris (White Cordyceps militaris)

Sujarinee Sangwanna et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different treatment times of an air atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) on the production of fruiting bodies and phytochemicals of white Cordyceps militaris. Results showed that optimal APPJ treatment significantly increased the fresh and dry weights of white C. militaris fruiting bodies. APPJ treatments also led to higher levels of cordycepin, adenosine, superoxide dismutase, glutathione S-transferase, and beta-glucan in the fruiting bodies, as well as enhanced antioxidant properties. However, carotenoid content decreased with APPJ treatment.

Biochemical and Physiological Changes during Early Adventitious Root Formation in Chrysanthemum indicum Linne Cuttings

Bimal Kumar Ghimire et al.

Summary: The study showed that using indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) treatment can enhance the regeneration capacity of chrysanthemum stem cuttings, as well as increase the number and length of roots. The cutting position of stock plants and the type of explant also influence rooting capacity. Under specific conditions, a high concentration of IBA significantly promotes the formation of adventitious roots.

Microbial and microscopic investigations to assess the susceptibility of Candida parapsilosis and Prototheca ciferrii to phyco-synthesized titanium dioxide nanoparticles and antimicrobial drugs

Awatief F. Hifney et al.

Summary: In this study, the antimicrobial activity of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs) synthesized from Spirulina platensis and conventional antifungal and antibacterial drugs were evaluated against Candida parapsilosis and Prototheca ciferrii. The TiO2NPs showed significant inhibitory effects on the growth of C. parapsilosis, and clotrimazole and ketoconazole exhibited the highest inhibitory effects on both microorganisms. Ultrastructure changes induced by TiO2NPs or clotrimazole included damage to the cell wall, invagination of the cell membrane, and discrimination of peroxisomes. Accumulation of TiO2NPs in C. parapsilosis cells led to abnormal nuclear division and irregular shape of the nucleus. These findings suggest that TiO2NPs have potential in the development of novel technologies for controlling infections caused by C. parapsilosis and P. ciferrii.

Plant-Based Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles Trigger Biochemical and Proteome Modifications in Triticum aestivum L. under Biotic Stress of Puccinia striiformis

Seema Hassan Satti et al.

Summary: In this study, bioinspired titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) were evaluated for their effects on wheat plants under biotic stress caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (Pst). The results showed that 40 mg/L TiO2 NPs were the most effective in decreasing disease severity and eliciting biochemical modifications in the plants. Furthermore, proteome analysis revealed changes in protein expression related to stress response and metabolic pathways in plants treated with 40 mg/L TiO2 NPs under stress.

Chrysanthemum species used as food and medicine: Understanding quality differences on the global market

Jingyi Gu et al.

Summary: This study aims to understand the chemical variability of chrysanthemum flowers and associated quality issues such as heavy metal contamination. The results show that samples from different origins have distinct chemical characteristics, and excessive amounts of harmful heavy metals are found in commercial products. Therefore, a more detailed definition and widespread regulation are necessary for better quality control.
