Overcoming the rising incidence and evolving mechanisms of antibiotic resistance by novel drug delivery approaches - An overview

Existing antimicrobials are no longer effective in treating infections caused by resistant pathogens. Nine prenylated acylphloroglucinols with potential anti-depressive and hepatoprotective activities from Hypericum scabrum

Summary: In our screening program, nine new polycyclic polyprenyled acylphloroglucinols were discovered from Hypericum scabrum, along with three known compounds. These compounds exhibited diverse chemical structures and potential biological activities, such as hepatoprotective effects and inhibition of noradrenaline reuptake.

Characteristic metabolites of Hypericum plants: their chemical structures and biological activities

Summary: Plants of the genus Hypericum are a rich source of natural products with diverse chemical structures and intriguing biological activities. Over 100 new characteristic metabolites have been isolated from 11 Hypericum plants and one Triadenum plant collected in Japan, China, and Uzbekistan, or cultivated in Japan, including prenylated acylphloroglucinols, meroterpenes, ketides, dibenzo-1,4-dioxane derivatives, and xanthones. These compounds hold promise as potential lead compounds for therapeutic agents.

Ethnobotany of the medicinal plants used by the ethnic communities of Kerman province, Southeast Iran

Summary: This study investigated the traditional use of medicinal plants by folk communities in Kerman province, southeast Iran. A total of 402 medicinal plant species were identified, mainly used for endocrine, dermatological, gastrointestinal, and respiratory problems. Dominant plant families for specific ailments were Asteraceae and Apiaceae for gastrointestinal disorders, Lamiaceae for respiratory and gastrointestinal ailments, and Apocynaceae for dermatological problems.
