Efficiency enhancement of Cu2ZnSnS4 monograin layer solar cells via absorber post-growth treatments

K. Timmo et al.

Summary: The efficiency of CZTS monograin layer solar cells is limited by recombination losses, which can be reduced by post-treating the surfaces of monograin powder crystals. This study optimized two sequential post-treatment steps and found that secondary phases were formed on the crystals' surfaces in the thermal annealing process. The study also showed that adjusting the annealing temperature can modify the Cu/Zn+Sn ratio in the CZTS crystals and improve the performance of monograin layer solar cells.

Pyrite as prospective absorber material for monograin layer solar cell

Katriin Kristmann et al.

Summary: In this study, FeS2 monograin powders were grown successfully using different flux materials and temperatures. The crystal structure and composition were confirmed, and n-type conductivity was observed. Heterostructures were fabricated using these monograin powders, and the carrier concentration was determined through capacitance-voltage measurements.

To grind or not to grind? The influence of mechanical and thermal treatments on the Cu/Zn disorder in Cu2ZnSn(SxSe1-x)4 monograins

G. Gurieva et al.

Summary: Kesterite-type thin film solar cell technologies based on polycrystalline absorber layers are commonly used. However, the use of Cu2ZnSn(SxSe1-x)(4) (CZTSSe) monograins in a polymer matrix offers a promising low cost alternative. In this study, neutron diffraction and Raman scattering spectroscopy were used to analyze the influence of Cu/Zn disorder, stoichiometry deviations, and intrinsic point defects on CZTSSe monograins.

The Nexus of World Electricity and Global Sustainable Development

Veronika Wittmann et al.

Summary: The main part of mankind's ecological footprint is the carbon footprint, which must shift from fossil fuels to climate-neutral sources like solar energy. In the coming decades, there will be changes in the way electricity is transmitted and stored, with larger electricity grids and the use of hydrogen for storage and energy transport, altering the global energy landscape. This cross-disciplinary paper explores the relationship between these developments and global sustainable development, analyzing the effectiveness of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals in addressing global climate change risks.
