A Review on the Progress, Challenges, and Performances of Tin-Based Perovskite Solar Cells

Yuen-Ean Lye et al.

Summary: In this twenty-first century, energy shortages have become a global issue, and developing sustainable renewable energy to replace fossil fuels is significant. Solar energy, particularly perovskite solar cells, is the most promising substitute for fossil fuels. However, the toxicity of lead in perovskite solar cells poses environmental contamination and public health problems. Therefore, developing lead-free perovskite solar cells is necessary for a pollution-free environment and human health. This review paper summarizes the important achievements in experimental-based studies of various types of Sn-based perovskites to date.

Influence of layer thickness, defect density, doping concentration, interface defects, work function, working temperature and reflecting coating on lead-free perovskite solar cell

Shayan Tariq Jan et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical modeling was performed to optimize and improve the performance of germanium-based perovskite solar cells. By adjusting parameters such as material thickness, doping concentration, work function, temperature, reflection, and interface defect densities, a power conversion efficiency of 17.74% was achieved. By replacing Spiro-OMeTAD and gold materials, further improvements in PCE were realized.

Recent progress, fabrication challenges and stability issues of lead-free tin-based perovskite thin films in the field of photovoltaics

Prerna Mahajan et al.

Summary: Lead-halide perovskite materials have attracted significant attention for optoelectronics and photovoltaic applications due to their favorable electrical and optical properties, but their commercialization is hindered by lead toxicity and material stability issues. The development of lead-free perovskites, with tin as a potential candidate, is important for environmental sustainability. More efforts are needed to advance tin-based lead-free perovskite thin films for long term cost-effective solar energy technology.

Numerical modelling and analysis of earth abundant Sb2S3 and Sb2Se3 based solar cells using SCAPS-1D

Arindam Basak et al.

Summary: Antimony chalcogenides, Sb2S3 and Sb2Se3, show great potential for next generation solar cells due to their non-toxicity, earth abundance, low cost and easy availability. Through detailed numerical analysis and configuration optimization, the optimal parameters for achieving high efficiency solar cells using Sb2S3 and Sb2Se3 have been determined, including absorber layer thickness, buffer layer thickness, series-shunt resistance, and the choice of electrode material with suitable work function. Efficiencies of 9.51% and 12.62% have been achieved for Sb2S3 and Sb2Se3 solar cells respectively after optimizing different parameters.

An investigation on the impact of temperature variation over the performance of tin-based perovskite solar cell: A numerical simulation approach

Priyanka Roy et al.

Summary: Hybrid inorganic-organic perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have gained global interest for their exceptional performance in the past few years. While lead-based PSCs have shown significant improvement in power conversion efficiency, researchers are exploring tin-based alternatives due to concerns over the toxicity of lead. Despite tin-based PSCs still lagging behind in performance, this study demonstrates an efficient design with high efficiency.
