Nickel-plated sulfur nanocomposites for electrochemically stable high-loading sulfur cathodes in a lean-electrolyte lithium-sulfur cell

Cun-Sheng Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel electroless-nickel-plated sulfur nanocomposite was developed by chemically plating conductive and electrocatalytic nickel onto the surface of sulfur particles. This cathode material demonstrated high charge-storage capacity and excellent rate performance, along with stable long-term cyclability for 200 cycles. The improved electrochemical characteristics were achieved by simultaneously reaching high sulfur loading and content, as well as a low electrolyte-to-sulfur ratio.

Energy-Saving Synthesis of Functional CoS2/rGO Interlayer With Enhanced Conversion Kinetics for High-Performance Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

Junan Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, cobalt disulfide/reduced graphene oxide composites were successfully prepared through a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method and utilized as a functional interlayer on a polypropylene separator to enhance the performance of Li-S batteries. The porous conductive graphene oxide relieved the shuttle effect of polysulfides, while the polar cobalt disulfide nanoparticles on the graphene oxide provided strong chemical adsorption to capture polysulfides. This combination led to improved conversion kinetics and excellent electrochemical performance in Li-S batteries.

2D Amorphous Mo-Doped CoB for Bidirectional Sulfur Catalysis in Lithium Sulfur Batteries

Tao Feng et al.

Summary: This study designed for the first time a 2D amorphous Mo-doped cobalt boride as a bidirectional sulfur catalyst for advanced lithium sulfur batteries. The atom cluster structure and the interaction of Mo, B, Co atoms contribute to enhanced conductivity, high long-chain lithium polysulfides affinity, and reversible Li2S nucleation and dissociation, thus accelerating LiPSs reduction and Li2S oxidation kinetics. The S cathode with Co7Mo3B catalyst delivers good life and superior rate performance.

Ni2P/rGO as a highly efficient sulfur host toward enhancing the polysulfides redox for lithium-sulfur batteries

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The combination of chemical immobilization and accelerated conversion has been certified as the most effective method to inhibit the shuttle effect. In this study, a bifunctional catalyst, Ni2P/rGO, is proposed to anchor and catalyze the conversion of polysulfides. The results show that Ni2P/rGO can significantly increase the active sites and accelerate the conversion kinetics of polysulfides.
