Tuning the Mn Dopant To Boost the Hydrogen Evolution Performance of CoP Nanowire Arrays

Cheng Meng et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the design and fabrication of Mn-doped cobalt phosphide nanowires as highly efficient electrocatalysts for alkaline hydrogen evolution. By doping Mn, the morphology and electronic structure of the material are modified, resulting in an increase in the number of active sites and improvement in intrinsic activity. The Mn-doped CoP nanowires exhibit lower overpotentials and higher activity compared to undoped CoP, attributed to the increased electrochemical active area, reduced impedance, and tuned electronic structure of the material.

Volcano-type relationship between oxidation states and catalytic activity of single-atom catalysts towards hydrogen evolution

Dong Cao et al.

Summary: The effect of oxidation state on catalytic activity remains controversial. In this study, a volcanic relationship between oxidation state and hydrogen evolution reaction activity was discovered based on Os single-atom catalysts. Mechanism studies revealed that increasing oxidation state can enhance hydrogen adsorption, while too high of an oxidation state weakens it. This work emphasizes the importance of oxidation state in manipulating activity and provides guidance for the rational design of single-atom catalysts.

Single Atom Ruthenium-Doped CoP/CDs Nanosheets via Splicing of Carbon-Dots for Robust Hydrogen Production

Haoqiang Song et al.

Summary: This study introduces a composite material design with CoP nanoparticles doped with Ru single-atom sites supported on carbon dots (CDs) single-layer nanosheets, forming Ru1CoP/CDs. The catalyst shows high efficiency for the hydrogen evolution reaction over a wide pH range and excellent stability and activity. Through density functional theory calculations, it was revealed that the substituted Ru single atoms enhance catalytic performance by lowering the proton-coupled electron transfer energy barrier and promoting H-H bond formation. This research presents a new approach for developing carbon-based hybridization materials with integrated electrocatalytic performance for water splitting.
