Investigation of the Associations between a Nanomaterial's Microrheology and Toxicology

Romi Singh Maharjan et al.

Summary: With the development of Nanotechnology, the use of nanomaterials in consumer products is increasing. Therefore, it is important to have a deep understanding and proper investigation of their safety and risk assessment. In this study, we used in silico models to select suitable nanomaterials and established a new method to evaluate their microrheological properties and cytotoxicity. The study also found that nanomaterials can affect the tight junction function of cells.

On predicting heterogeneity in nanoparticle dosage

Celia V. Dowling et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles are used for targeted drug delivery to specific cell types, but there is much to be discovered about the fundamental biology of nanoparticle-cell interactions. Few nanoparticle-based therapies have succeeded in clinical trials due to challenges in understanding the heterogeneity in nanoparticle dosage data. Mathematical investigations reveal that heterogeneity in nanoparticle dosage arises from both stochasticity in interactions and heterogeneity in cell populations.

Key principles and methods for studying the endocytosis of biological and nanoparticle therapeutics

Joshua J. Rennick et al.

Summary: Endocytosis is crucial for the cellular uptake of therapeutic nanomedicines, but current understanding and study of these mechanisms are limited. The use of nonspecific inhibitors presents challenges, and alternative genetic approaches may offer more robust insights into endocytic pathways. Future studies at the intersection of cell biology and nanomedicine are needed to improve nanoparticle therapies.
