3D Binary Mesocrystals from Anisotropic Nanoparticles

Christian Jenewein et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the simultaneous self-assembly of platinum and iron oxide nanocubes into micrometer-sized 3D mesocrystals using gas-phase diffusion technique, showing long-range ordering on the atomic scale. The addition of minor amounts of a secondary particle type promotes random incorporation of foreign particles into a self-assembling host lattice. Advanced transmission and scanning electron microscopy techniques were used to visualize the random distribution of binary particle types on the surface and within the crystal bulk.

Nanocomposites Based on Coil-Comb Diblock Copolymers

Jingyu Huang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of polymer chain architecture on the assembly of nanoparticles (NPs) in polymer matrices using synthesized block copolymers (BCPs) with a coil polystyrene (PS) block and a comb random copolymer (RCP) block. Different morphologies of BCPs were obtained by varying the volume fractions of the RCP block, showing asymmetrical phase behavior with the addition of NPs. Self-consistent field theory-density functional theory simulations helped to qualitatively describe the observed morphologies and phase transitions in the nanocomposites.

Shape-Directed Co-Assembly of Lead Halide Perovskite Nanocubes with Dielectric Nanodisks into Binary Nanocrystal Superlattices

Ihor Cherniukh et al.

Summary: The co-assembly of cubic CsPbBr3 nanocubes with disk-shaped LaF3 NCs can yield six columnar structures, not observed before. The significant effect of the cubic shape is rationalized using packing-density calculations, and other structures are observed in systems with comparable dimensions.
