Hydrogen-Bonded Organic Frameworks: Structural Design and Emerging Applications

Xiaojun Ding et al.

Summary: Constructing well-organized organic frameworks with tailor-made functionalities has the potential to enhance multi-domain applications. Hydrogen bonding is a type of weak intermolecular interaction, different from covalent bonding or metal-ligand coordination. Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) assembled using hydrogen bonding have the advantage of decomposing and regenerating, improving processability and expanding applicability. This paper summarizes the basic building concepts of HOFs, including feasible hydrogen bonded motifs, effective molecular structures, and their emerging applications.

A Noncovalent π-Stacked Porous Organic Molecular Framework for Selective Separation of Aromatics and Cyclic Aliphatics

Cheng Chen et al.

Summary: Selective separation using porous adsorbents is an energy-efficient alternative to traditional separation techniques. Stacked porous organic molecular frameworks (POMFs) capable of noncovalent pi...pi interactions are emerging as a new kind of adsorbents that facilitate green separation. The study introduces a robust porous molecular crystal (TAPM-1) with multiple intermolecular pi...pi interactions. TAPM-1 exhibits excellent hydrophobicity, thermostability, recyclability, and high selectivity for aromatics over cyclic aliphatics, making it suitable for high-resolution gas chromatographic separation.

Highly Selective Adsorption of Carbon Dioxide over Acetylene in an Ultramicroporous Metal-Organic Framework

Yanshu Shi et al.

Summary: Utilizing a metal-organic framework Cu-F-pymo, researchers have developed a highly selective adsorbent for the separation of CO2 from C2H2. This material shows an unprecedented selectivity exceeding 10(5) under ambient conditions, attributed to the molecular sieving effect caused by the blockage of preferential sites for C2H2 by residual water molecules. Additionally, Cu-F-pymo exhibits remarkable stability under harsh conditions, making it a promising candidate for industrial applications.
