Encapsulation and delivery of phage as a novel method for gut flora manipulation in situ: A review

Yufan Yang et al.

Summary: Intestinal flora regulation is an effective method to treat diseases associated with microbiome imbalance. While phage delivery has shown promise in modifying gut flora composition, there are challenges in maintaining phage stability and precise delivery. Encapsulation strategy using different materials has been used to protect phages and control their release in the colon. This review summarizes recent research progress on phage encapsulation and delivery, with a focus on the function properties of carrier systems in protection and colon-targeted delivery.

Prevalence and Distribution of Three Bumblebee Pathogens from the Czech Republic

Alena Votavova et al.

Summary: In recent decades, there has been a significant global decline in pollinators, with bumblebees being one of the important contributors to pollination. Factors such as habitat loss, climate change, pesticides, and pathogens have contributed to the decline of bumblebee populations. This study provides the first knowledge of the occurrence of three parasite species in bumblebees in the Czech Republic and reveals the influence of environment on parasite infection.

Classical methods and perspectives for manipulating the human gut microbial ecosystem

Jorge Armando Jimenez-Avalos et al.

Summary: A healthy Human Gut Microbial Ecosystem (HGME) is essential for the proper functioning of the body, with dysbiosis potentially leading to various disorders. Different methods such as diet, probiotics, antibiotics, and Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) can help restore or maintain the balance of Gut Microbiota (GM) populations. New approaches such as engineered nanomaterials, phagotherapy, antimicrobial peptides, non-antibiotic drugs, vaccines, and immunoglobulins are promising strategies for modulating HGME.

Strain-level analysis reveals the vertical microbial transmission during the life cycle updates of bumblebee

Qinzhi Su et al.

Summary: The gut microbiota of eusocial bumblebees and honeybees exhibit high strain-level diversity, with specific strains being vertically transmitted from queens to newborn workers. The species composition of both queen and worker shifts with colony growth, highlighting the role of social interactions in the microbiota composition. Comparative metagenomic analysis shows host-specificity for microbes across different bee hosts, with honeybees exhibiting a higher level of strain variation and complex gene repertoires linked to polysaccharide digestion.
