Mechanisms of Uptake and Membrane Curvature Generation for the Internalization of Silica Nanoparticles by Cells

Valentina Francia et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms of nanoparticle uptake into cells and found that silica nanoparticles enter cells via LDLR but not through the usual clathrin-mediated pathway. Additionally, silencing proteins involved in clathrin-independent mechanisms and BAR-domain proteins greatly reduced nanoparticle uptake.

Low nanogel stiffness favors nanogel transcytosis across an in vitro blood-brain barrier

Lais Ribovski et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of nanoparticle stiffness on transport across the blood-brain barrier, finding that more densely cross-linked nanogels showed higher uptake by brain endothelial cells, while less densely cross-linked nanogels demonstrated higher transcytotic potential. These findings suggest that nanogel stiffness has opposing effects on nanogel uptake and transcytosis at the BBB.

Effects of Protein Source on Liposome Uptake by Cells: Corona Composition and Impact of the Excess Free Proteins

Keni Yang et al.

Summary: By comparing the uptake of liposomes in medium with bovine and human serum, the study found that interactions between nanomaterials and cells in different biological fluids are influenced by both corona composition and free proteins in solution. When corona-coated liposomes were exposed to cells in serum-free medium, uptake differences were primarily dependent on the presence and source of free proteins.
