Sexsomnia in Active Duty Military: A Series of Four Cases

Juan D. Fernandez et al.

Summary: Sexsomnia is a rare disorder where sexual behaviors occur during sleep. Military service members, due to the challenging environment they face, may be at an increased risk for this condition. Understanding how sexsomnia manifests is important for addressing medicolegal implications, especially in cases of sexual assault in the military. This study presents the largest case series to date on sexsomnia in active duty military service members and compares them with existing literature, highlighting their similarities and differences.

NonREM Disorders of Arousal and Related Parasomnias: an Updated Review

Muna Irfan et al.

Summary: Parasomnias are abnormal behaviors associated with sleep, such as sleepwalking and sleep terrors. These behaviors can be caused by incomplete dissociation of wakefulness from nonrapid eye movement sleep, as well as disruptions in normal arousal mechanisms during sleep. Management typically involves reducing the risk of sleep-related injury, treating coexisting sleep disorders, and eliminating potential contributing factors like sedative-hypnotic medications.
