Inverse mapping theorem in Frechet spaces

Summary: The paper reconsiders the classical inverse mapping theorem by Nash and Moser from the perspective of recent developments by Ekeland and the authors. By combining geometricization of tame estimates with ideas from variational analysis when applied to a directionally differentiable mapping, a very general surjectivity result is obtained, with the expected Lipschitz-like continuity of the inverse if injectivity can be ensured. A brief application to differential equations is also presented.
