New insights into iron/nickel-carbon ternary micro-electrolysis toward 4-nitrochlorobenzene removal: Enhancing reduction and unveiling removal mechanisms

Mengmeng Xiong et al.

Summary: The Fe/Ni-AC ternary micro-electrolysis material, constructed by introducing trace nickel into the iron/carbon system, exhibited enhanced reducibility and was effective for the removal of 4-NCB. The synergistic effect between the anode and double-cathode in the ternary micro-electrolysis system led to improved removal efficiency. The anode (Fe-0) formed galvanic couples with the activated carbon (AC) and zero-valent nickel (Ni-0), while the presence of Ni-0 catalyzed the formation of active hydrogen (H*) and facilitated the corrosion of Fe-0.

Magnetic heterojunction of oxygen-deficient Ti3--TiO2 and Ar-Fe2O3 derived from metal-organic frameworks for efficient peroxydisulfate (PDS) photo-activation

Meiying Jia et al.

Summary: This study successfully addressed the issues of light collection and separation of nano-catalysts in the slurry-system by fabricating a magnetic Ti3+-TiO2/Ar-Fe2O3 type II heterojunction. The proposed system showed excellent degradation ability in multiple antibiotics and real samples, offering a new chance for the photo-activation of peroxydisulfate (PDS). The high light collection ability and exposed Fe clusters in Ar-Fe2O3, coupled with suitable energy band levels of Ti3+-TiO2/Ar-Fe2O3, enhanced carrier separation rates and led to the production of active species for oxidizing NOR.

Synthesis of a ternary microscopic ball-shaped micro-electrolysis filler and its application in wastewater treatment

Gaihong Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully used Fe-BC-Cu filler synthesized from waste Lycium barbarum L. branches to treat oil refinery water, achieving maximum COD and TOC removal efficiency of 77.11% and 68.71% respectively under optimal conditions of initial wastewater pH of 4.0, Fe-BC ratio of 1:1, and Fe-BC-Cu ratio of 1:1:1. Reusability tests showed that the COD removal efficiency remained at around 80% over 10 cycles. Heavy metal analysis of the effluent indicated no risk of heavy metal release, and the micro-electrolysis filler showed extraordinary potential for industrial applications.

Carbocatalytic ozonation toward advanced water purification

Ya Liu et al.

Summary: Carbon-based catalytic ozonation is an advanced technology for wastewater treatment, utilizing the synergistic effect of direct ozone oxidation and reactive oxygen species. By using carbonaceous catalysts instead of metal-based materials, improved catalytic performance and reduced operational costs can be achieved, with the added benefit of avoiding secondary contamination. Structural control and surface modification of carbocatalysts allow for the regulation of reactivity, stability and reaction pathways.
