Removal of metal ions using a new magnetic chitosan nano-bio-adsorbent; A powerful approach in water treatment

Fatemeh Karimi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the EDTA functionalization of M-Cs nanocomposite significantly enhanced its adsorption capacity for Cu, Cd, and Zn ions. The maximum adsorption capacity followed the order of Cd(II) > Cu(II) > Zn(II) with the highest efficiency achieved at pH 5.3. The adsorption process was found to be exothermic and spontaneous in nature.

Lead and other elements-based pollution in soil, crops and water near a lead-acid battery recycling factory in Bangladesh

Sazal Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the levels of lead and other elements in soil, crops, and water around a lead-acid battery recycling workshop in southwestern Bangladesh. The results showed excessive concentrations of lead in both soil and crops, and groundwater samples exceeded the WHO guideline values. These findings suggest the need for better management of LAB recycling workshops to prevent lead pollution.

Flocculation with heterogeneous composition in water environments: A review

Que Nguyen Ho et al.

Summary: Flocculation is a critical process for controlling the fate and transport of suspended particulate matter (SPM) in water environments. However, the lack of comprehensive research on the composition and structure of flocs has led to misconceptions about the dynamics of SPM. This review summarizes the current understanding of the heterogeneous composition of flocs and discusses the effects of human activities on floc composition.

Aalia Manzoor et al.

Summary: Thermally stable, high performance sulfonated copolyimide adsorbents (OBM and FBM) with excellent adsorption ability were prepared. The introduction of hydrophilic sulfonic acid groups improved the material's hydrophilicity. A good correlation was observed between computational and experimental findings. OBM showed higher adsorption capacity and removal rate for Pb(II) in aqueous media.

Summary: This study investigates the recovery/removal of Pb(II) from water solutions using two different commercial ion-exchange resins. Both resins achieved 100% removal of Pb(II) under specific conditions. The study also examines the mechanism of the adsorption process and finds that it is a spontaneous and endothermic process. In addition, the resin recyclability is evaluated, and one resin is found to have good stability while the other suffers performance degradation.
