Facile construction of polyzwitterion membrane via assembly of graphene oxide-based core-brush nanosheet for high-efficiency water permeation

Feng Liang et al.

Summary: A polyzwitterion membrane was constructed through in situ free radical polymerization of sulfobetaine methacrylate monomer on the surface of graphene oxide. The membrane exhibited a polymer-dominated structure with ultra-high grafting amount of poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) brushes. Due to the high hydration ability and water affinity of the polyzwitterion brushes, as well as the densified membrane structure, the membrane achieved excellent water/ethanol separation performance.

Theoretical study on Janus graphene oxide membrane for water transport

Quan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of oxidized regions in water permeation through graphene oxide membranes using molecular simulations. The results show that the oxidized upper surface and interlayer promote water capture capability and effective vertical diffusion, leading to infinite water selectivity and outstanding water flux. Janus graphene oxide membranes are suggested as potential candidates for water-ethanol separation.

The role of oxidation level in mass-transport properties and dehumidification performance of graphene oxide membranes

E. A. Chernova et al.

Summary: This study reports on gas and vapor transport properties of ultra-thin graphene oxide membranes with different C:O ratios. It was found that a decrease in C:O ratio leads to an increase in water vapor permeance and a slight reduction in permeance towards permanent gases. Experimental and modeling results show the decisive role of H2O diffusivity in GO membranes.
