Mechanism of Extractive Separation of Light Cycle Oil Using a Deep Eutectic Solvent Composed of Tetrabutylphosphonium Bromide and Levulinic Acid

Zhen Ge et al.

Summary: The use of a deep eutectic solvent composed of tetrabutylphosphonium bromide and levulinic acid has shown excellent extraction performance in separating light cycle oil components. This study investigates the mechanisms of deep eutectic solvent formation and light cycle oil separation through characterization analysis and molecular dynamics simulations. The results suggest that the hydrogen-bonding interactions between the Br- anion of tetrabutylphosphonium bromide and the carboxyl group of levulinic acid drive the deep eutectic solvent formation, while the functional groups of both compounds play a crucial role in the extraction of aromatic compounds from light cycle oil.

Molecular dynamics simulations of heterogeneous hydrogen bond environment in hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents

Usman L. Abbas et al.

Summary: Hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents rely on heterogeneous hydrogen bond environments, with each solvent possessing multiple types of hydrogen bonds that impact diffusivity and molecular association. The dominating hydrogen bonds determine intra- or inter-component associations, with diffusivity showing an inverse relationship with hydrogen bond strength.

The role of hydrogen-bond in solubilizing drugs by ionic liquids: A molecular dynamics and density functional theory study

Yiping Huang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the solvation mechanisms of aspirin and etomidate in four combinations of ionic liquids through molecular dynamics simulations and DFT calculations. The results showed that the solvation properties were closely related to the hydrogen-bond basicity of anions and the hydrogen-bond acidity of cations. The study also found differences in solvation mechanisms between aspirin and etomidate.

Molecular insight into the effect of ion structure and interface behavior on the ammonia absorption by ionic liquids

Tongtong Zhao et al.

Summary: Molecular dynamics simulations were performed to investigate the absorption of gases (NH3, N-2, H-2) by different types of ionic liquids (protic IL [Bim][Tf2N] and conventional IL [Bmim][Tf2N]). The results revealed that the interaction between NH3 and the [Bim](+) cation was stronger than that between NH3 and [Bmim](+) cation, resulting in high selective absorption of NH3. The increased number density of cations near the IL-gas interface facilitated the rapid and effective permeation of NH3 molecules.

Opposite selectivities of tri-n-butyl phosphate and Cyanex 923 in solvent extraction of lithium and magnesium

Zheng Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the extraction performance of the C923/FeCl3 system is opposite to that of the TBP/FeCl3 system, mainly due to C923's strong extraction of Fe leading to a low concentration of [FeCl4](-), C923 in combination with IL strongly extracting Mg, and C923 extracting Mg by solvation, resulting in insufficient C923 concentration for Li extraction.

Insight into the mechanism of tuned extractive desulfurization by aqueous tetrabutylphosphonium bromide

Hongye Cheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanism of tuned extractive desulfurization by aqueous tetrabutylphosphonium bromide (TBPB) using molecular dynamics simulations combined with FT-IR and H-1 NMR spectra. The results showed that the CH-pi interaction between TBP+ cation and dibenzothiophene (DBT) and the hydrogen bonding between Br- anion and DBT are the driving forces for DBT extraction into aqueous TBPB phase. Additionally, the solvation of cation and anion by further addition of water weakens the interactions of TBPB with DBT and facilitates DBT aggregation and TBPB recovery.

Structure and hydrogen bonds of hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent-aqueous liquid-liquid interfaces

Usman L. Abbas et al.

Summary: By investigating the structural features of hydrophobic DES-aqueous interfaces, it was found that variations in dipole moment and hydrogen bonds can influence the extraction ability of DESs by adjusting the partition and kinetics of organic substrates in the DES-aqueous biphasic systems. The relationship between these interfacial features' variations and the size and hydrophobicity of DES components was also analyzed.
