Vertex Strategy in Layered 2D MOFs: Simultaneous Improvement of Thermodynamics and Kinetics for Record C2H2/CO2 Separation Performance

Xiaoqian Zhu et al.

Summary: Developing adsorbents with multiple merits in capacity, selectivity, mass transfer, and stability is crucial for producing high-purity C2H2 for advanced polymers and the electronic industry. We demonstrate a vertex strategy to create adsorbents with these merits through rationally designing the vertex groups of a wavy-shaped framework in 2D metal-organic frameworks.

Highly Efficient Separation of C8 Aromatic Isomers by Rationally Designed Nonaromatic Metal-Organic Frameworks

Jingyi Zhou et al.

Summary: This article introduces a strategy for precise discrimination of C8 aromatics by constructing a nonaromatic confined pore environment. The resulting metal-organic framework exhibits outstanding separation performance for C8 aromatics and sets a benchmark for their dynamic separation performance.

A MOF-based Ultra-Strong Acetylene Nano-trap for Highly Efficient C2H2/CO2 Separation

Zheng Niu et al.

Summary: A new type of ultra-strong C2H2 nano-trap has been proposed, which efficiently captures C2H2 molecules and separates C2H2/CO2 mixture based on multiple binding interactions. The nano-trap exhibits high C2H2 uptake, selectivity, and the locations of C2H2 molecules within it have been visualized by in situ single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, identifying multiple binding sites responsible for the strong interactions with C2H2.

Shaping of gallate-based metal-organic frameworks for adsorption separation of ethylene from acetylene and ethane

Kaiyi Wu et al.

Summary: Shaping metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) powders into formed bodies using hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) as a binder for gallate-based MOFs pellets can solve issues such as high pressure drop, pipe blockage, and dust pollution in industrial applications. The well-shaped M-gallate pellets exhibit excellent separation performance and are promising candidates for practical industrial realization.

Deep Desulfurization with Record SO2 Adsorption on the Metal-Organic Frameworks

Fuqiang Chen et al.

Summary: This study reported a family of MOFs with abundant hydrogen bond donors that showed high selectivity for capturing sulfur dioxide in flue gas desulfurization and natural gas purification, along with excellent cycling stability. Multiple hydrogen bonding interactions ensured a firm grasp of SO2 molecules within the framework, leading to high uptake and density. The MOFs exhibited ultrahigh adsorption uptake and selectivity, as well as robust cycling stability even after multiple cycles.

From metal-organic framework powders to shaped solids: recent developments and challenges

Bakytzhan Yeskendir et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks have shown great potential in applications such as storage, capture, and delivery due to their highly porous structure. However, the main challenge lies in their shaping, requiring long-term mechanical stability and the preservation of physical and chemical properties. Existing shaping techniques include traditional methods like pelletization and extrusion, as well as emerging methods such as 3D printing and spray drying. Each technique has its own advantages and disadvantages, affecting the final properties of the shaped materials.
