Microwave gas sensor for detection of ammonia at room-temperature

Ningyi Wang et al.

Summary: The innovative application of microwave transduction technology in gas sensors has led to the development of wireless passive room-temperature gas sensors integrated on wearable devices. The research utilized ultranarrowband microwave filter as a microwave transducer device and deposited SnO2/bionic porous carbon composites on the coupled line spacing blank surface. The results showed excellent NH3 sensing behavior at room temperature, including wide concentration range, fast response and recovery rate, selectivity, reversibility, and stability.

Boosting room-temperature ppb-level NO2 sensing over reduced graphene oxide by co-decoration of α-Fe2O3 and SnO2 nanocrystals

Yaqing Zhang et al.

Summary: In this work, highly sensitive NO2 sensors were fabricated using alpha-Fe2O3 and SnO2 co-decorated RGO hybrids as sensing materials. The bandgap energy of alpha-Fe2O3/SnO2-RGO hybrids was reduced compared to SnO2 modified RGO hybrids, which facilitated the release of more electrons and formation of more oxygen ions at room temperature. The sensors showed excellent response towards NO2, with the alpha-Fe2O3/SnO2-RGO-15-based sensor achieving the highest response of 7.4 towards 1 ppm NO2. The sensor also demonstrated superior repeatability and potential application in NO2 detection.

Ammonia exposure causes the imbalance of the gut-brain axis by altering gene networks associated with oxidative metabolism, inflammation and apoptosis

Yutao Li et al.

Summary: This study established a porcine exogenous ammonia poisoning model and found that exposure to ammonia led to differential expression of hundreds of genes in the jejunum and hypothalamus of pigs, activating pathways related to inflammation, oxidative metabolism, and apoptosis. Ammonia exposure also caused oxidative stress, imbalance of the brain-gut axis, and pathological damage in pigs. The study not only provided insight into the toxicity assessment of ammonia, but also enriched the understanding of its toxicological mechanisms.

Summary: Developing efficient metal-organic framework (MOF) based nanocomposite sensor for fast, sensitive and selective detection of ammonia is crucial for environmental protection and human health. The synthesized Pd-Co@IRMOF-1 nanocomposite sensor exhibited remarkable sensitivity and stability towards NH3, with excellent selectivity over other common gases. This sensor has potential applications in wearable sensor devices for efficient ammonia sensing.
