Superior Fenton-like and photo-Fenton-like activity of MoS2@TiO2/N-doped carbon nanofibers with phase-regulated and vertically grown MoS2 nanosheets

Yue Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated the effects of phase and vertical structure of Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets on the activation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in Fenton-like reactions. The results showed that the metallic 1 T phase of MoS2 favored the dark-Fenton-like reaction, while the biphase 1 T/2H MoS2 was beneficial for the photo-Fenton-like reaction. The vertical structure of MoS2 nanosheets was found to be more effective in promoting H2O2 activation compared to phase regulation. The study also proposed degradation pathways for tetracycline (TC) and demonstrated the stability and recyclability of the optimized MoS2-based catalysts. This work provides guidance for the design of highly efficient MoS2-based Fenton-like or photo-Fenton-like catalysts.

Yuna Zhang et al.

Summary: The strategy of mass-producing Ag-based SERS active material with tunable spacing distance by thermal treating Ag-MOF has been reported. The resulting corn-like Ag@Carbon material has Ag nanoparticles dispersed on the surface, forming ordered SERS hotspots with a fixed spacing distance of around 7 nm, leading to desirable SERS activity. Further study shows the potential of this material for detecting organic compounds with high sensitivity and low detection limit.

Enhanced transfer efficiency of plasmonic hot-electron across Au/GaN interface by the piezo-phototronic effect

Yu Zhu et al.

Summary: The efficiency of plasmon-induced hot-electron transfer in Au NPs/GaN film can be enhanced by nearly 120% under 3.57% compressive straining using the piezo-phototronic effect. This enhancement surpasses previous achievements through methods such as morphology control or optimizing charge-transfer pathways. The piezo-phototronic effect modulates the barrier height between Au NPs/GaN heterojunction, leading to increased/decreased photoresponsivity under compressive/tensile strain in the plasmonic heterojunction.

A Fully Integrated Flexible Tunable Chemical Sensor Based on Gold-Modified Indium Selenide Nanosheets

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel light-modulated bifunctional gas sensor based on Au nanoparticles-modified 2D InSe nanosheets was demonstrated in this work. The sensor showed a reversible and highly responsive recognition of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) under visible-light illumination, with a sensitivity about 10 times higher than that under dark condition and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.17 ppb. In contrast, for sensing ammonia (NH3), higher sensitivity and selectivity were obtained in darkness, with a sensitivity of 11% and an LOD of 0.2 ppm. The sensor also exhibited good stability, repeatability, and anti-interference ability. The tunable sensing behavior with light modulation was studied using density functional theory, and a new principle called carrier storage box of Au nanoparticles was proposed. Finally, the sensor was successfully integrated into a wearable device for measuring NH3 and NO2 in the ambient environment.

Summary: The UV-enhanced sensing performance of a 2DPI/In2O3 based sensor for NH3 at room temperature was investigated. The composite material was synthesized using a hydrothermal method and showed sensitivity to NH3 with or without UV illumination. Characterization techniques confirmed the superior performance of the 2DPI/In2O3 sensor compared to pure 2DPI or In2O3 sensors. The presence of the 2DPI-In2O3 heterojunction and the photocatalytic promotion of 2DPI contribute to the enhanced sensing performance.

Visible-Light-Activated Response Originating from Carrier-Mobility Modulation of NO2 Gas Sensors Based on MoS2 Monolayers

Hiroshi Tabata et al.

Summary: Some gas sensors exhibit enhanced sensitivity and response rates under light illumination, with molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) thin layers showing effective photoactivated gas responses to visible light. The photoactivated response is mainly attributed to the photovoltaic effect, with the sensor response depending on the Langmuir adsorption isotherm of NO2 molecules on the MoS2 layer. The fast response/recovery of the photoactivated response is linked to carrier mobility modulation of MoS2 due to dipole scattering of adsorbed NO2 molecules.
