Method for developing and using high quality reference images to evaluate tone mapping operators

Summary: With the advancement of imaging technology, high dynamic range (HDR) images can now be captured and displayed to produce realistic effects. This study aimed to establish an image quality metric based on external references to evaluate various tone mapping operators (TMOs), and the results were compared with previous studies to find a high correlation. The hierarchical relationship among TMOs was established through two psychophysical experiments using a set of high quality reference images.

Traditional IQA methods have limitations in terms of predefined filtering algorithms, leading to the exploration of Soft Computing metaheuristic techniques. This paper presents an image quality assessment method based on Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm and evaluates images using the entropy parameter. The results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method and emphasize the significance of soft computing techniques in various fields of image processing.
