Self-organized multi-target trapping of swarm robots with density-based interaction

Xiaokang Lei et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel density-based method is proposed to achieve distributed and self-organized multi-target trapping behavior in swarm robots. The method utilizes individual-level interactions based on local spatial density without the need for communication or encirclement function. Numerical simulations and real robotic experiments validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, showing stable, flexible, noise-tolerant, and size-scalable trapping capability.

A swarm intelligence-based robotic search algorithm integrated with game theory

Khalil Al-Rahman Youssefi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel decentralized and asynchronous swarm robotic search algorithm that integrates game theory to disperse robots effectively in the environment, navigate obstacles, and solve mazes. By playing a sequential game during the search process and selecting velocity update rules accordingly, the proposed algorithm prevents early convergence and improves search efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate that the suggested algorithm outperforms other methods in terms of search duration and attained path length to the target, showing equal success rate to the state-of-the-art algorithms. Furthermore, the proposed strategic game works well in search environments with varying levels of complexity and particularly enhances search efficiency in complex scenarios.

Collecting a Flock With Multiple Sub-Groups by Using Multi-Robot System

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: This letter presents a distributed approach for automatically collecting a flock of robots. A density-based strategy is proposed to address the challenge of collecting a larger flock with a limited number of robots. The approach combines edge-following behavior and a shrink mechanism to successfully collect both single clusters and flocks with multiple sub-groups.

Multi-Robot Object Transport Motion Planning With a Deformable Sheet

Jiawei Hu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method for using a deformable sheet to handle objects and manipulating them through multiple mobile robots. A computational model and algorithm are proposed to capture the object position on the sheet with changing robotic team formations. A virtual variable cables model is used to simplify the modeling process, and a motion planner is presented to transport the object in a three-dimensional cluttered environment. The effectiveness and versatility of the proposed model and planner are demonstrated through simulations and experiments with different robot team sizes.

Relative localization of swarm robotics based on the polar method

Sunxin Wang et al.

Summary: This article proposes a simple and efficient method for relative localization of swarm robotics. The method involves designing a relative localization module for micro-robots using a compass and infrared transceiver sensors. It introduces an improved relative localization method called the polar method, and establishes a set of localization rules to apply the method to swarm systems. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and flexibility of this method, and its successful application in shape formation of swarm robots.
