Hollow-walled lattice materials by additive manufacturing: Design, manufacture, properties, applications and challenges

J. Noronha et al.

Summary: The study explores the potential applications of hollow-walled lattice structures in materials engineering, addressing the lack of comprehensive analysis on these structures. It highlights the unique performance of hollow-walled lattice structures, distinct from dense-walled lattice structures, providing more possibilities for architecture design at the micro to nanoscale levels.

Manufacturability of Ti-Al-4V Hollow-Walled Lattice Struts by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

J. Noronha et al.

Summary: Hollow-walled lattices have lower densities than conventional dense-walled lattices. This study investigates the LPBF manufacturability of Ti-6Al-4V hollow-walled struts with respect to various parameters, and provides guidance for the future manufacture of these lattices. The average inconsistency between designed and manufactured outer diameters was found to be substantially lower than achievable by conventional manufacturing.
