Is funding related to higher research impact? Exploring its relationship and the mediating role of collaboration in several disciplines

Belen Alvarez-Bornstein et al.

Summary: This study examines the effects of funding on research performance through analyzing scientific publications of Spain-based researchers in seven disciplines. The results show that funded research tends to be published in more prestigious journals with higher citation rates and larger collaborative teams. Funding has both direct and indirect effects on paper citation rates, with indirect effects mediated through publishing more complete papers, in prestigious journals, and with extensive collaboration.

Domestic researchers with longer careers generate higher average citation impact but it does not increase over time

Nabeil Maflahi et al.

Summary: Research indicates that long-term domestic researchers do not necessarily improve their citation impact over time, reaching their average impact early in their career. However, these long-term domestic researchers still tend to have a higher citation impact than the national average in all countries. On the other hand, scholars publishing only one journal article tend to have significantly lower citation impact in all countries.
