Phosphorus acquisition strategies of wheat are related to biochar types added in cadmium-contaminated soil: Evidence from soil zymography and root morphology

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of biochar on the phosphorus acquisition strategies of wheat under cadmium stress. The results showed that P-modified biochar maintained high levels of Olsen-P in the soil, improved root morphology and growth performance, and reduced cadmium concentration in soils and plant shoots. Therefore, P-modified biochar has great potential for remediating cadmium-contaminated soil.

Novel target sites for soybean yield enhancement by photosynthesis

Yuming Yang et al.

Summary: This study measured four representative chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of 219 diverse soybean accessions and analyzed the underlying genetic architecture, uncovering 17 QTLs associated with photosynthesis-related traits and nine candidate genes. These findings provide new targets for crop yield improvement by increasing photosynthesis efficiency.

Effect of production temperature in biochar properties from bamboo culm and its influences on atrazine adsorption from aqueous systems

Mariana Sbizzaro et al.

Summary: Biochar from bamboo culm was produced at three different temperatures and evaluated for its efficiency in atrazine adsorption. The results showed that higher production temperature led to enhanced aromaticity and surface area of biochar, resulting in improved atrazine adsorption capacity. Among the three biochars tested, the one produced at 450 degrees C exhibited the best performance in atrazine removal.

Impacts of biochar on basil (Ocimum basilicum) growth, root morphological traits, plant biochemical and physiological properties and soil enzymatic activities

Dilfuza Jabborova et al.

Summary: The study found that biochar concentrations of 2% and 3% significantly increased the plant height, leaf length, leaf number, and leaf width of basil, as well as chlorophyll content, total sugar, flavonoids, and soil enzyme activities. As the concentration of biochar increased, the total root length, surface area, diameter, and volume also significantly increased.

Biochar stimulates tea growth by improving nutrients in acidic soil

Peng Yan et al.

Summary: This study found that both bamboo biochar and rice biochar applied at rates of 2.5% and 5.0% significantly improved tea growth, increased plant P, K, and Mg concentrations, and reduced soil Mn and Cu concentrations. This suggests that biochar can be used as a soil amendment to promote tea growth by supplying essential nutrients and reducing heavy metal concentrations.
