Bingfeng Zhao et al.

Summary: This study developed a reliable multiaxial fatigue life prediction method by considering the effect of additional cyclic hardening. By defining a new characteristic plane and establishing a new multiaxial fatigue damage control parameter, the dynamic path of stress spindle can be fully analyzed. Additionally, a multiaxial fatigue life prediction back-propagation neural network model was proposed. The feasibility of the proposed method was validated by experimental data.

Novel solar/sulfite advanced oxidation process for carbamazepine degradation: Radical chemistry, transformation pathways, influence on disinfection byproducts and toxic changes

Han Chen et al.

Summary: Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) play a significant role in eliminating persistent micro-contaminants in water. In this study, a solar/sulfite process was developed to degrade carbamazepine (CBZ) and showed effectiveness in CBZ elimination. The generated sulfate and hydroxyl radicals contributed to the degradation of CBZ, and the process pH and the presence of certain substances affected the degradation efficiency. The study also identified major degradation intermediates of CBZ and proposed a transformation pathway. Furthermore, the solar/sulfite pretreatment reduced the formation of disinfection byproducts during subsequent chlorination, demonstrating its potential in controlling water contamination.

Model predictive control of long Transfer-line cooling process based on Back-Propagation neural network

Zheng-ze Chang et al.

Summary: As the scale of large cryogenic systems continues to expand, traditional control methods become less effective in controlling the thermal inertia and nonlinear characteristics of the pre-cooling process of long-distance cryogenic transfer-line. Researchers have developed an automated control method using Model Predictive Control (MPC) and Back-Propagation (BP) neural network as a surrogate model for non-linear large hysteresis systems.

Advanced oxidation of Trihalomethane (THMs) precursors and season-wise multi-pathway human carcinogenic risk assessment in Indian drinking water supplies

Jaydev Kumar Mahato et al.

Summary: This study examined the effectiveness of various oxidation processes in removing Trihalomethane (THMs) precursors in water treatment and found that the Fenton process was the most effective technique. The Fenton process showed higher degradation potential and achieved significant reductions in total organic carbon (TOC) and UV254. Additionally, the study investigated the cancer and non-cancer risks associated with THMs in drinking water supplies in major Indian cities and found that oral ingestion presented the highest risk, with females at higher risk of cancer. Seasonal risk assessment also revealed a higher cancer risk in the pre-monsoon season.
