Risk assessment of PBDEs and PCBs in dust from an e-waste recycling area of China

Ciming Lin et al.

Summary: The concentrations of PBDEs and PCBs in dust samples from Guiyu were significantly higher than those from the reference site of Haojiang. Kindergarten dust in Guiyu had the highest concentration of PCBs, while house dust in Haojiang had the highest concentration of PBDEs. Children in Guiyu had a 36 times higher exposure to PBDEs via dust ingestion compared to those in Haojiang.

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers in indoor dusts from industrial factories, offices, and houses in northern Vietnam: Contamination characteristics and human exposure

Lieu Thi Tran et al.

Summary: This study found that concentrations of PBDEs in office and factory dust in northern Vietnam were significantly higher than in residential dust, with BDE-209 being the dominant congener. The effectiveness of global PBDE phase-out measures was reflected in relatively low PBDE concentrations in dust samples. Human exposure and health risks associated with dust-bound PBDEs were found to be acceptable.

A nationwide survey of 20 legacy brominated flame retardants in indoor dust from China: continuing occurrence, national distribution, and implication for human exposure

Haifeng Li et al.

Summary: Despite restrictions, PBDEs and HBCDDs are still widely present as pollutants in indoor dust samples across China. Higher levels of these chemicals were found in samples from economically developed regions, particularly along the eastern coast. Dust dermal absorption is an important exposure pathway for the Chinese population. However, the exposure doses of PBDEs and HBCDDs are unlikely to pose significant health concerns for infants and adults in China compared to threshold values.

Residential airborne culturable fungi under general living scenario: On-site investigation in 12 typical cities, China

Lin Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated residential airborne culturable fungi (RAF) in 12 typical cities in China, revealing seasonal variations in RAF concentrations and their associations with factors such as temperature and humidity. Environmental pollutants like PM2.5, PM10, CO2, CO, and NO2 were found to have significant negative or positive correlations with RAF levels. Additionally, architectural characteristics, family-related information, and lifestyle behaviors were also found to be significantly related to RAF concentrations.

Summary: This study investigated indoor particulate matter levels in twelve cities in China and found that both summer and winter concentrations exceeded limit values, with higher levels in winter. There were seasonal variations in different cities, with higher concentrations in cities with low GDP and smaller populations, while cities with higher GDP and larger populations had relatively lower concentrations.
