Flight initiation distance and refuge in urban birds

However, few studies have explored the effects of different types of refugia on animal escape decisions. This study used Bayesian regression models to investigate the relationship between escape behavior and the distance to the nearest refuge in European cities. The study found that birds preferred tree refuges and escaped earlier when the distance to the nearest refuge was longer.
