How climate change is impacting the major yield crops of Pakistan? an exploration from long- and short-run estimation

Amber Gul et al.

Summary: The study confirmed the long-term association between climatic and non-climatic factors with major food crop yield in Pakistan. It indicated that temperature has diverse impacts on yield, while factors such as area under major crops, rainfall, fertilizer consumption, and formal credit positively influence yield. The causality test showed significant effects of both climatic and non-climatic factors on yield, with temperature having a greater impact than non-climatic factors.

Future climate change could reduce irrigated and rainfed wheat water footprint in arid environments

Reza Deihimfard et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the water footprint (WF) of irrigated and rainfed wheat agro-ecosystems in Iran under future climate conditions. The results showed that the total WF may decrease in the future for both irrigated and rainfed systems, but the share of gray water footprint is projected to increase.

A Systematic Review on Farmers' Adaptation Strategies in Pakistan toward Climate Change

Naeem Saddique et al.

Summary: This systematic review paper examines the adaptation measures at the farm level toward climate change in Pakistan. It finds that farmers adopt strategies such as changing cropping practices, farm management techniques, land use management practices, and nonagriculture livelihood options. The review also identifies demographic, socioeconomic, and resources and institutional factors that influence farmers' adaptation measures. Barriers hindering farmers' adaptive capacity include lack of access to information and knowledge, extension services, credit facilities, and farm resources.

Bias correction capabilities of quantile mapping methods for rainfall and temperature variables

Maedeh Enayati et al.

Summary: This study compared the performance of quantile mapping (QM) techniques as a bias correction method for raw outputs from GCM/RCM combinations, finding that the results varied depending on transformation functions, parameter sets, and topographic conditions. The QUANT and RQUANT methods were identified as excellent options for correcting bias in rainfall data.

Towards withholding irrigation regimes and drought-resistant genotypes as strategies to increase canola production in drought-prone environments: A modeling approach

Sajjad Rahimi-Moghaddam et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the growth and yield of three rapeseed genotypes under different irrigation regimes and found that the mid-maturity genotype had the highest seed yield, while the late-maturity genotype was more drought-resistant. The findings suggest that the mid-maturity genotype has more yield potential under full irrigation conditions, and the late-maturity genotype can be a candidate for breeding high-yielding genotypes with drought tolerance. Withholding irrigation at the seed filling stage could be a strategy for water saving without significant decrease in seed yield.

Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture and Its Mitigation Strategies: A Review

Gurdeep Singh Malhi et al.

Summary: Climate change, driven by greenhouse gas emissions, poses a global threat to food and nutritional security. Despite the positive effects of increased CO2 concentration on plant growth and productivity, the rising temperatures have negative impacts on crop activities, pest infestation, and weed flora. Mitigation strategies are necessary to address the economic impact of climate change on agriculture.
